Who is Echotree for? Is it just for older people?

Echotree is for anyone with a story to tell, no matter their age. While many of our clients are elders preserving a lifetime of wisdom, Echotree is just as powerful for people in midlife, young adulthood, or at any meaningful crossroads.

Whether you're a grandparent passing down your legacy, a parent capturing moments while your kids are still young, or a creative soul reflecting on your path, Echotree offers a space to pause, speak, and be remembered.

Some use Echotree to leave a gift for their family. Others do it to better understand themselves. Many return later to update their Echo as life continues to unfold.

Do I need to prepare anything before the interview?

Nope. You don’t need notes, a script, or any special preparation. All you need is a willingness to share.

Our interview process is fully guided, like sitting down for a meaningful conversation with someone who knows just what to ask.

Before your interview, we’ll connect with you for a short pre-interview conversation — either by phone or in person — to get a sense of who you are and what matters most. This helps us shape the interview around your life so it feels meaningful, natural, and true to you.

During the interview, we’ll walk you through gentle, open-ended questions designed to bring out your stories, values, humor, and reflections. You can skip any question you don’t feel like answering. This is your story, on your terms.

Your wisdom is already inside you. We’re just here to help draw it out.

Can I do this for someone else, like a parent or grandparent? / How did EchoTree begin?

Yes, absolutely. That’s actually how Echotree began. In our founder Bradley’s words:

“Before this was ever a business, it was personal. I created the first Echo for my own grandmother, but the seed of the idea came from someone I never got to meet: her mother, Moo.

My great-grandmother Moo was the heart of our family. I grew up on stories about her, how she loved her kids like nothing else, how she was funny without even meaning to be, how she had very little but gave with her whole heart. To this day, I can feel her love moving through the family, a part of her is still woven into who we are.

And yet, I never got to hear her voice. I never got to ask her about her life, or what she believed in, or what she might want her great-great-grandchildren to know. All I had of her were a handful of stories and some family heirlooms, many of which had already been lost to time. I remember thinking, I wish I could just sit with her.

That’s where Echotree came from. It started as a gift, a way to capture someone’s voice, their values, their way of being. Not just to preserve the past, but to keep a conversation going across generations.”

So yes, you can absolutely use Echotree for someone else: a parent, a grandparent, a mentor or friend. If they’re open to it, we’ll guide the whole experience with care. You can help them set it up, join part of the session, or give it as a gift.

It’s not about replacing anyone. It’s about asking all the important questions while we’re here together. Who knows who might want to hear their voice one day.

Is Echotree only for individuals, or can we record as a couple or family?

At its core, an Echo is designed to reflect a single person: their voice, values, personality, and worldview. Because of that, we don’t currently combine multiple people into one shared Echo. The interview process is meant to create a clear, lifelike reflection of one individual at a time.

That said, it’s very common for us to work with families. Many of our clients choose to record Echoes for multiple loved ones, including parents, siblings, partners, and even across generations. We offer flexible family packages that allow you to preserve several voices side by side, each with their own Echo.

There are also special moments where it makes sense to record people together. For example, one of our earliest clients was a pair of newlyweds who asked us to capture themselves both individually and as a couple. We conducted full interviews with each of them, then recorded a shorter session together before and after their wedding. It became a meaningful keepsake of that moment in time.

Your stories may be connected, but your voices are worth honoring one at a time. And when it matters most, we’ll help you capture both.

How much does it cost?

Every Echo is unique, so pricing depends on the type of experience you want to create. A full legacy Echo — with multi-day filming, deep interview coverage, and voice modeling — will naturally be more involved than a simple snapshot or moment-in-time reflection.
